Scott County ArtWorks Mission
ArtWorks was born in a spirit of inclusiveness, cooperation, mutual support, and a desire by the many arts organizations of Scott County to promote the arts in Georgetown and Scott County. Seven individual arts organizations came together about four years ago to explore mutual ideas and goals. A Town Meeting for the arts was held at the public library May 8, 2003. Attended by a standing room only crowd, the public was encouraged to express their needs and desires regarding arts opportunities and to document those through questionnaires provided. Responding to the information expressed, the arts organizations joined together taking the name ArtWorks. ArtWorks is now celebrating its third anniversary working together on scheduling and supporting the efforts of each other. The most recent collaboration was the annual October Arts Weekend featuring a play by the Maskrafters Community Theatre, a regional invitational Art Show and a Tour of Historic Homes. Several of the ArtWorks partners worked together to offer to the public this very successful and exciting Arts Weekend.

The ArtWorks arts program, under the auspices of the Scott County Arts Consortium, was established at Cardome Community Centre in Building #3 and funded by the Mayor and the Georgetown City Council. Drawing on information and surveys taken at the Town Meeting, an art center offering a schedule of arts, cultural and educational classes and workshops was begun. People of all ages take a variety of classes in visual art, music, drama, sculpture, clay, dance, creative writing, special camps and workshops. A series of Kindermusik classes enjoyed by small children and their parents from newborn to kindergarten age and classes for the gifted and talented program for the middle school age child is also offered. A fully equipped clay studio offering instruction in hand building and throwing is available to the public. The ceramic studio is one of the most popular areas and offers the opportunity for the public to choose from a variety of bisque ware to glaze and fire. This studio can be reserved for events including birthday parties, showers and other special occasions.
