Open Mic Wed March 9: Read Selections from Your Favorite African American Author

Wednesday evening join us at 7 pm to read from (or listen to favorite selections from African American authors).  The Gallery opens at 6 pm to feature artworks created by students at the Ed Davis Learning Center as they explored drawing and clay as they learned about the life of Dave Drake, potter,poet and for a time, enslaved.  It is also another chance to enjoy the splendid exhibit.

cRazy QuilTs with Jamie McIntosh: Presentation & Micro Workshop

Check out Jamie McIntosh and her new take on crazy quilts. Painter, master recycler, cutting edge clothing designer, artist extraordinaire has applied her unique recycled (Trash Fashion) style to create some, needless to say amazing unusual quilt squares. Join her for a brown bag lunch and try your hand at making quilts, Jamie style. For those of you who just can’t wrap your head around the idea of recycled quilt squares (think NASA), real fabric will be available as well. Coffee, tea & water provided.

“Stitches in Time: Quilts from Kentucky”

Merry Christmas everyone! And a Happy New Year! Do we ever have an exciting year lined up for you! The Arts & Cultural Center welcomes the new year with a beautiful quilt show, opening at 5:00 PM on January 7.  “Stitches in Time: Quilts from Kentucky” features the work of the two remarkable quilting groups: Elkhorn Creek Quilters, quilters from Scott County and our sister city in Tahara, Japan; and The Kentucky Six, a group of textile artists from Lexington and surrounding areas.  Other activities in conjunction with the show include quilting demonstrations at 1:00 PM on January 13 and 27; a brown bag lunch with artist Jamie McIntosh at noon on January 20, story telling with Judge George Lusby, and paper quilting with Kitty Dougoud, times to be announced. Stay tuned!

Classical Guitar Concert and Benefit

Don’t miss the wonderful concert on January 21 by classical guitarist Jeffrey Bianchi. Mr. Bianchi has performed all over the United States. CD’s will be available. Extravagant hors d’oeuvres will be served from 6:30 to 7:30 PM with the concert at 7:30. Tickets are fifteen dollars per person and proceeds go to benefit educational programming for Scott County children at the Arts & Cultural Center and The ArtZone.

A Teddy Bear Sweetheart Tea

will be held on February 5 at 2:00 PM at the Arts & Cultural Center. A Victorian Tea experience will be enjoyed by children in an historic setting. Sip tea, eat savories and sweets while learning about proper tea etiquette. Tickets are twenty five dollars per child and one accompanying adult. Make reservations by calling 502-570-8366.
